expressed their frustrations with their diplomatic representatives, specifically, their honorary consuls. Their protests were only met with indifference to the workers&#8217; struggle and hardships of life under Kafala.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-427e947 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"427e947\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The systematic abuse and negligence of honorary consulates peaked during the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing collapse of the economy, creating &#8220;fertile grounds for severe human rights abuses.&#8221; These violations include, but are not limited to:<\/p><ul><li>Abusive working conditions;<\/li><li>Physical and sexual violence;<\/li><li>Forced labor;<\/li><li>Human trafficking;<\/li><li>Prolonged detentions, including arbitrary detentions;<\/li><li>Deportations.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bec8eaf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bec8eaf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Our research covers 4 years of advocacy work against the Kenyan\u00a0<span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Inter; font-size: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-size ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); word-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-text-word-spacing );\">consulate\u2019s abuses in the country based on ARM&#8217;s experience in working closely with migrant communities, supporting their self-advocacy attempts.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-718a123 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"718a123\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This paper aims to look more deeply into the role of honorary consulates by understanding their structure, history and their role in international law.
