On Lebanese Elections & Workers Day 2018

Uncategorized

During the past eight years, we migrant domestic workers in Lebanon have been organizing and mobilizing on Workers’ Day to demand our right to decent working and living conditions. This year, due to workers’ day (May 1st) being in the same week as the Lebanese parliamentary elections day (May 6th), we will unfortunately not be able to hold our annual protest then due to the limits imposed on political organizing during elections week according to Lebanese law.

However, we took advantage of this event to highlight that the socioeconomic rights of Lebanese individuals cannot be seperated from that of migrant workers in the country, pushing for more solidarity against the neoliberal policies and structural inequalities that maintain the impoverishment of most people in the country. Full rights for everyone, no concessions.

We will be organizing our annual protest in Beirut for this year on June 17th, 2018, a day after the International Domestic Workers Day.

If you have time, energy, and ideas to contribute with regarding organizing the protest, please contact us!
