Since 2014, February 6th has been globally recognized as the “Global Day of CommemorAction”, dedicated to commemorating and remembering the lives lost, those who have gone missing, and individuals forcefully disappeared at sea and borders worldwide.
On this occasion, we urge the Lebanese authorities and international community to seek justice for migrants in Lebanon.
Since the 8th of October, Lebanon has been on the brink of a full-scale war. Villages on the southern borders have been repeatedly attacked by Israel, causing the displacement of more than 40,000 of their residents. This brief aims to share information on the current situation of migrant domestic workers in Lebanon following repeated attacks by Israel.
On Saturday 21st of January 2023, our colleague, ally, and friend Samuel (Sami) Tesfaye was arrested in Beirut Rafic Hariri airport, on his way back from Ethiopia for a family visit. The arrest is under the premise that Sami violated the arbitrary conditions of his residency, imposed on him, and countless migrants, by the Kafala system.
At the Anti-Racism Movement (ARM), we are constantly working on a multitude of different activities and initiatives. Most of our activities are only possible with the help of dedicated and passionate volunteers who work in collaboration with our core team.
The Anti-Racism Movement (ARM) was launched in 2010 as a grassroots collective by young Lebanese feminist activists in collaboration with migrant workers and migrant domestic workers.
